Do you test your products or ingredients on animals?
We do not test our products or the individual ingredients on animals. Nor do we use third party companies to test on our behalf.
You state that you do not use SLS but your products contain Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate?
SLS is the abbreviation for Sodium Lauryl Sulphate which is a harsh detergent used in many cosmetics and toothpastes, it is synthetic and has a small molecule structure which means it can penetrate the skin and cause irritation. A number of reported health concerns have been attributed to this ingredient. It is important to note that we do not use this ingredient in any of our Dr. Organic products. Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate is a totally different ingredient which is derived from coconut oil and is a safe, skin friendly cleanser that removes surface oil, dirt and bacteria, without stripping or drying sensitive skin.
Are your aroma/fragrances natural?
We only use natural and food grade aroma/fragrance in our products. In the majority of the Dr. Organic products the fragrance is made from a proprietary blend of pure essential oils to give a unique aroma.
What does Bioactive mean?
Bioactive is a core part of the Dr. Organic philosophy. Basically it means that we look to retain the active properties of the extracts we use. For example Tea Tree and Pomegranate have specific actives which have been deemed as being the principle component which gives the ingredient its specific beneficial properties. Tea Tree as an example is made up of around 50 constituents, but research has shown that one in particular, Terpinen 4-ol is the one which gives Tea Tree oil its antiseptic qualities. For it to be effective Terpinen 4-ol should be at a level of 36% (according to the Australian Tea Tree Association), therefore we ensure that we exceed this criteria so all our Tea Tree oil is guaranteed at a level of 38%. The same can be said for Pomegranate with its key active which is Ellagic acid.
Are your aroma/fragrances natural?
For areas of sensitivity it is best to use the Dr. Organic Manuka Honey Rescue Cream. As a moisturiser this cream has a richer texture and also contains specific extracts which are renowned for their anti-inflammatory action. It helps to soothe and is also hypoallergenic.
Do your toothpastes contain fluoride?
All Dr. Organic toothpastes contain Sodium Monofluorophosphate at a level of 1000ppm (parts per million).
Most cosmetics are made up of over 50% water, are yours?
Wherever possible we use Aloe Vera Juice as the main ingredient instead of water. Aloe Vera has a host of skin benefits and is an ideal addition to any skincare product. Water will always be present at some level in our skincare products as it is used in the manufacturing process when we add natural extracts. Obviously for oil based products there is neither Aloe Vera Juice or water.
You don’t use parabens in your products but what do you use instead?
Obviously it is important to ensure that all products are stable and have an acceptable shelf life. To achieve this we use a combination of Potassium Sorbate and Sodium Benzoate which are established preservatives in the food industry. They are also approved for use by various organic certifiers.
Are Dr.Organic products safe to use during pregnancy?
There is no evidence to state that Dr. Organic products are not safe to use in pregnancy as they are made from naturally derived ingredients. That being said, we always advise that you speak to your medical practitioner, whether they are your GP, midwife or holistic practitioner. They have your medical records and are aware of any allergies you may have. We do test our products on volunteers, but these trials are limited to people with skin sensitivities but this does not include pregnant volunteers.
Are your deodorants also anti-perspirants?
All Dr. Organic Deodorants are non occlusive; therefore they do not block pores and are not anti-perspirants. They do not contain things like aluminium which many people believe block pores and can cause health problems. The Dr. Organic deodorants work by eliminating odour from sweat, while allowing the body to perspire naturally.
Which products are suitable for vegetarians and vegans?
All Dr. Organic products are suitable for vegetarians; the following table identifies whether they each product is suitable for vegans.
I am a retailer/SPA, can I sell your products?
At the moment we have an exclusive agreement with Holland & Barrett in the UK and as such we do not supply any other retailers or distribution channels. This is due to come to an end later this year at which point we will look to begin selling to independent retailers. Please sign up for our newsletter on our website for more information.
Do your creams contain SPF?
At the moment our creams do not have a SPF. We are currently looking at how we can include natural SPF's into the creams. Natural SPF's are extremely expensive and work by physically blocking out the UVA and UVB rays, this basically means that a white residue is left on the skin which is not ideal. Using standard SPF ingredients which are synthetic and work chemically are no doubt the most user friendly, cheapest and most effective solution but we do not wish to compromise our natural approach. New natural ingredients are being developed all the time and I hope that we can utilise some of these in the not too distant future
